The Itaca Centerpost Patio Umbrella

Summer is here and it is time to think about getting some shade in your backyard! A perfect option is a centerpost umbrella, also known as a cafe umbrella or market umbrella. This type of umbrella is one that has the umbrella post in the center of the umbrella. This is the most common type of patio umbrellas.  There are many different types and price ranges of market umbrellas. Follow these tips to help buy the right patio umbrella for you!

1. Determine your budget of the umbrella. These types of umbrella can range from about $40 to the hundreds. But remember, sometimes you get what you pay for!

2. Determine the size needed. Centerpost umbrellas can range from about 5ft to 20ft!

3. Pick what type of post that you prefer. Market umbrellas typically come with a wood centerpost, aluminum centerpost, or fiberglass centerpost. If you are choosing a wood post umbrella try to pick one that has a one piece pole and does not have a brass or similar fitting in the center of the post. As this is a stress point for the umbrella and is typically where you will have breakage to the umbrella. Remember, aluminum and fiberglass will cost more in the short term but can last for years to come.

4. Make sure your umbrella features a Marine or awning grade fabric. Most manufacturers will feature a warranty on the top for mildew and rotting. But remember, an umbrella still needs to be cleaned, read our umbrella cleaning tips.

5. Make sure that you put the umbrella in the correct weighted base for the size of the umbrella and your conditions. For Example if you live on the water you will probably need a heavier base. Refer to the manufacturer of your umbrella for the necessary weight needed for your umbrella.

6. Now it is time to enjoy your umbrella and relax in the shade!! For more information regarding choosing an umbrella, please visit TheShadeExperts.com.

For a light cleaning of your patio umbrellas you may clean fabrics while still on an umbrella frame. Brush off loose dirt with a broom or brush. Hose down the fabirc using your normal garden hose or a power washer on a low setting. Prepare a cleaning solution of water and mild soap such as Ivory Snow, Dreft or Woolite (no detergents). Use a soft bristle brush to clean any dirt markings. Allow cleaning solution to soak into the fabric, do not allow the soap to dry. Rinse thoroughly with your water source. Allow fabric to air dry.
